Ammon North Stake Merit Badge Scramble

Here's what we've been waiting for: Preliminary information on the Ammon North Stake Merit Badge Scramble.

It should be clear that merit badges offered at the scramble may change as we get closer to the time of the scramble, so be flexible.

First, (drumroll please) the merit badges to be presented:

First Period

  • Communications
  • Personal Management
  • First Aid (two courses to meet demand)
  • Sustainability
  • Personal Fitness
  • Citizenship in the Community
  • Family Life
  • Computers
Other options may come up as well.

The scramble will be from 6-8:30 pm at the John Adams Parkway church. We'll arrange for carpooling at the Tiebreaker church beforehand.

Second, the schedule will be as follows:

6:00     Opening Ceremony
6:10     First class begins
7:10     Snack
7:25     Second class begins
8:30     Second class ends

Again, things may change. I hope not, but that's life. We'll keep you updated.

As far as I know, it'll be first come, first served at the sessions, with the counselors deciding when the classes are full. There is no cost to attend.

April 2014 Calendar

Here's the calendar for April. Given the fiasco that was March's calendar, let me say this: This one ain't changing. Campout is set, and it's not moving from that weekend.

That said, we are going to have a lot of fun this month.

As always, time is 7 pm and the location is the Tiebreaker Church unless otherwise noted.

April 1: NO SCOUTS. Enjoy your spring break.

April 8: Island Park Scout Camp meeting. This is where the Scouts and leaders will meet with the 11-year-old Scouts and others attending scout camp for the first time this summer. We'll talk about:

  • Costs
  • The fundraising auction to reduce or eliminate those costs
  • Health form requirements
  • What happens at camp
  • Uniform bank
Each patrol in Troop 125 has prepared a song or skit to help show the fun side of scout camp. We'll also have additional presentations.

April 11-12: Campout at Hells' Half Acre. Meet at the Davidsons at 5 pm. We'll hike a mile the next day through the Hell's Half Acre lava field west of Idaho Falls, and also visit a lava cave. Please bring rain gear, good shoes, and a flashlight, along with your regular stuff.

April 15 and 22: Merit Badge Scramble. See this post for more information on the scramble. The scramble itself will be at the John Adams chapel from 6-8:30 pm. We'll arrange for carpooling at the Tiebreaker Church prior to the scramble.

April 26: Dinner and service auction. 6 pm at the Tiebreaker Church. We'll enjoy a free baked potato dinner. The fundraiser part comes from bidding on services, stuff, and desserts at the silent auction. Money from the auction will go to help get boys to scout camp and high adventure (for the older boys) and for the girls to go to girls camp.

COMMERCIAL: If you have an item, service, or dessert you'd like to donate, contact Holly Whitworth  at 535-1499 or Chris Waddoups at 522-4706.

April 29: We'll begin preparations for the Cycling merit badge. We'll find out who has bikes, who needs bikes, who has bikes to lend and whether the boys want to tackle the road cycling option or the trail cycling option.

Saturday, March 8, 2014

A Reminder and a Rescheduling. Again.

UPDATED: Camping is back on for the weekend of the 21-22.

Just a reminder to the Scouts who went on the Klondike Derby: You should have conducted a simple fire drill at your home this week in order to finish up your Fire Safety Merit Badge. If you haven't done it yet, well, do it Sunday morning. That's when we'll be doing ours . . .

A fix for the calendar: Camping in the month of March will be the weekend of the 21-22nd. It's still my intention to camp/hike at Hell's Half Acre.
